Bio
I am currently studying computer science at the University of Notre Dame and learning how to use technology to not only help others, but to be an example that can inspire other Latinas to pursue a career in STEM. My favorite programming languages are C++ and JavaScript, and some of my favorite coding projects have included making an app that can help people use Bluetooth to make emergency phone calls in scenarios where internet access may not be available as well as making a makeup program that can help match you to the best products to use based on your skin type. When I'm not in the classroom or library, you can find me working in the Office of Information Technologies on campus as an IT Consultant, where I help others with computer troubleshooting issues, downloading necessary programs, operating system help, and imaging computers.
Current job
Student & IT Computer Software Consultant
Why would you recommend exploring careers in science and technology to other Latina girls?
Science and technology are the most definitive paths to leave a changing impact on the world. Latinas hold only 2% of jobs in STEM, and it is important that we actively work to gradually increase that percentage to not only strive for representation, but to motivate other Latinas to individually find out for themselves what it feels like to have a lasting impact on society. Involving yourself with STEM fields during your career pushes you to create, innovate, and learn what it's like to fail and succeed, ultimately shaping your problem solving skills like you'd never imagined.
