Bio
I am currently a sophomore at Florida International University, studying Computer Science. Originally when I started University, I was studying Business Administration - Management, but when I saw what I could do with programming, I was instantly hooked. I believe Computer Science opens a lot of doors for people and you can work in so many different fields, such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Software Engineering, etc. as well as different industries. I was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and came to the United States when I was 6 years old. Growing up Computer Science wasn't a topic mainly talked about, my mother was a stay-at-home mom, with a Fashion Boutique back home, her background was as a beautician and my grandmother was a seamstress. My father was the owner of a well-off landscaping company, so growing up I wasn't exposed to engineering and computing. Now at my University, I am the President of Women in Computer Science and it is my passion and goal to motivate and inspire other women in and out of our field. To mentor and guide them and open their eyes to the world of opportunities that Computer Science provides. I have participated in the Google IgniteCS program, to teach elementary school children the fundamentals of Computer Science. I also am currently a tutor at my University and provide peer-to-peer tutoring through the Academic Success Initiative in the fundamentals of Computer Science: Discrete Math and Fundamentals of Computer Systems.

Why would you recommend exploring careers in science and technology to other Latina girls?
I would recommend exploring careers in Science and Technology to other Latina girls because as I mentioned it opens so many doors for you. Have you ever seen a problem and thought, I could solve that with an App, or creating a machine or device. Or seen something that's already made thought, I could make that better? Do you want to work in Fashion, Medicine, or another field? With Computer Science you can combine technology with those fields. If you like problem solving or are creative, or want to build the future then Science and Technology is for you.
