Bio
Margaret was born and raised in Puebla, Mexico, where she completed all basic education. She obtained her B.S. in Physics at the Universidad de las Americas Puebla in Mexico. She graduated with a master’s degree in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona in 2014 and has a projected graduation date for the Ph.D. in Optical Sciences in 2018. Her dissertation is on various metrology techniques, including work on the GRISM, which is an instrument which will go on board NASA's Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST), While she completes her Ph.D. she is working at NASA Goddard in Maryland as an Optical engineer. During her time there, she has been able to work on various space telescopes, such as the James Webb Space Telescope and examine some of the witness samples placed on board the Hubble Space Telescope after a servicing mission.

Why would you recommend exploring careers in science and technology to other Latina girls?
Because STEM is fascinating, because there are more questions than answers and we need more creative people to tackle these. Latinas are incredibly smart and capable people that can take on these roles. An extra perk is that these technology jobs are in high demand and they pay well!
