I am currently enrolled in a high school that specializes in math and science. Therefore, more rigorous math and science courses are offered. So, I challenge myself with the toughest ones, like AP Physics or AP Calculus. I have found that biology is my favorite subject, so I am preparing myself to study biology in college.
I have taken AP Biology and Honors Biology, and I am planning on taking biotechnology next year, along with AP Chemistry. I want to do research in college that is biology-related. So, I am using all of my time before college to prepare for that research. I am taking hard math and science classes, and I am gaining lab experience at the same time.

Why would you recommend exploring careers in science and technology to other Latina girls?
My advice would be to do whatever you are truly passionate about. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who wants to get involved in the science and technology fields to get involved regardless of their gender, race, religion, etc. Don't be discouraged by stereotypes or by people who tell you that you will never be as good as a man in this field. At the same time, don't be afraid to stray away from what you thought you always loved. Explore, especially because the ability to explore is a privilege. Make hard decisions that are uncomfortable and pull you from life plans you thought you had if it is in the name of your happiness. For all the things you do organically and do not self-impose, you will produce the best and most unique results.
