Our aim?

Designed by Latinas, Technolochicas courses introduce computer science through the lens of personal experiences, lift up overlooked narratives, and make the case for why we need more diverse voices working in technology. Together with our mentors, Technolochicas Code It courses inspire students to further engage in computer science courses so they can be prepared for the challenges of the 21st century. Our mission is to expand opportunities for all students to explore the STEM sector, which we do through building partnerships with schools, universities, and community allies.

Our model

We are dedicated to building a powerful channel for Latinas and underrepresented students to see themselves reflected in STEM. Our team works with universities, corporations, and local nonprofits to identify top talent in computer science and STEM who can speak to the experience of overcoming biases and a lack of representation to follow their dreams. We train these mentors in our courses, and then connect them to the next generation of students.
Once trained, we plug Technolochicas Mentors into their communities to teach middle and high school students the fundamentals of Computer Science using our project-based, 10 hour courses. Courses are available in English and Spanish.
Through our Mentor-Student model, combined with field trips and career talks, Technolochicas aims to strengthen ties between technology companies, universities, and middle and high school students. Our goal is to open doors to a world of opportunities. Through the establishment of local community support , we seek to connect local STEM leaders to our Mentors and students, creating a network of support and growth for everyone involved.

Who are our
students?

Joining forces with schools, community centers, and local organizations, we seek out creative young minds, especially focusing on high school and middle school students.

Students engage in a series of 10-hour instructional courses and are expected to perform an equal amount of independent work. The courses are designed to not only impart technical skills but also to increase awareness and foster positive attitudes towards STEM careers.

Our diversity statement

Technolochicas, initiated by the Televisa Foundation in 2014 in the United States, was originally designed to empower Latina women and girls in their pursuit of STEM education and careers. While our commitment to supporting Latina women and girls remains steadfast, we have expanded our focus to welcome individuals of all backgrounds who aspire to learn coding and embark on their STEM journey. Today, our courses are accessible to anyone eager to explore the exciting world of technology.
