Scheck Hillel Community School
I am currently entering my senior year of high school at Scheck Hillel Community School in North Miami Beach, FL. About a year ago, I finished what I believe to be one of my biggest accomplishments; I built a computer, piece by piece, from scratch. It was at this time that I realized I wanted to become a computer engineer.
So, I applied for a program called, "Girls Who Code," and attended that program during the summer of 2015. There, I realized that I wanted to focus on robotics as well as engineering. In the near future, I hope to be attending college with a major in Computer Engineering and a minor in Robotics.
Why would you recommend exploring careers in science and technology to other Latina girls?
My advice would be to do whatever you are truly passionate about. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who wants to get involved in the Science and Technology field to get involved regardless of their gender, race, religion, etc. Don't be discouraged by stereotypes or people who tell you that you will never be as good as a man in this field.
After all, there are so many opportunities arising with the evolution of technology as a whole. Embrace your roots and who you are as a person. Always remember that women can do anything that men can.
