Place of birth:
Southwestern University, Bachelor in Computer Science.
Curriculum Engineer at Codecademy
My name is Natalia and I'm a recent computer science grad from Southwestern University near Austin,Texas. I'm 22 years old and have recently relocated to NYC! I am really interested in software development, data visualizations and interactive narrative/design. I've written for FastCompany, where I covered tech and wrote code tutorials for art installations inside of FastCo.Labs. While in school, I photographed and wrote for the University's newspaper, eventually becoming the Editor In Chief of our student magazine.
These gigs have landed me interviews with Jane Goodall, the Tumblr White House Social, and led me to conferences with National Geographic on the other side of the country. I'm also the founder of the "Real People Real Beauty Campaign", a movement for positive body image. You can have many interests and be a TECHNOLOchica! I am also a 2015 recipient of the NCWIT Collegiate Award for Aspirations in Computing.
Why would you recommend exploring careers in science and technology to other Latina girls?
It's a world of possibilities, you can dance in any intersection of tech and a given interest. It's challenging and extremely fun, and you can go very far with this career. It's a career full of lifelong learning, the tools are ever changing and people get pretty passionate about what's best.
A nice plus is also that the average salary for a career in tech is higher than the average hispanic household's income.
